ChatGPT: The ACDQ Method

As someone working at a small studio, I often find myself juggling multiple roles: creative lead, technical director, and even marketing specialist. When it comes to creating videos about our services, I rely heavily on ChatGPT to help me brainstorm ideas, refine scripts, and even solve technical challenges. Over time, I’ve developed a simple framework to get the most out of these interactions, then I found out it’s quite a common framework with people using AI.

It’s called the ACDQ method:

  • Act like an expert,

  • provide Context,

  • think Deeply

  • embrace Questions.

Here’s how it works in practice.

1. Act Like an Expert

When I’m planning a new video, I imagine I’m briefing a professional collaborator. To get the best insights from ChatGPT, I approach it as though I’m talking to an expert:

  • I use specific terminology about my studio’s niche.

  • I assume ChatGPT has a strong foundation but needs direction on our particular goals.

  • I frame my queries like I would to a creative partner or consultant.

For instance, instead of saying, “I need help with a video script,” I’ll ask, “How can I write a compelling 60-second script that highlights the efficiency of our animation pipeline services?” This mindset encourages detailed and focused responses.

2. Provide Context

Context is crucial. My studio’s projects are unique, so I need to make sure ChatGPT understands the specific audience and goals for each video:

  • What is the video about?

  • Who is the audience?

  • What tone or style am I aiming for?

Example:

Poor: "Help me write a video script."

Better: "I’m creating a video to promote our studio’s animation pipeline services to small-to-mid-sized production companies. The tone should be professional but approachable, emphasizing how we save studios time and money. The video should start with a problem (inefficient workflows) and end with our solution."

This level of context ensures ChatGPT’s suggestions align with my vision.

3. Think Deeply

When working on a script or concept, I’ve learned to think beyond the surface. Before engaging with ChatGPT, I take a moment to consider:

  • What do I want this video to achieve?

  • What are my audience’s pain points?

  • Are there underlying themes or stories I want to weave in?

Example:

Shallow: "What should I say in the video?"

Deep: "What’s the best way to introduce the idea of automation in animation pipelines to studio owners who may not understand the technical details but care deeply about saving money and meeting deadlines?"

This reflective approach leads to responses that resonate more deeply with my audience.

4. Embrace Questions

The process of creating a video is rarely linear. I’ve found that the real power of ChatGPT lies in asking follow-up questions:

  • I clarify ambiguous points.

  • I explore alternative angles or tones.

  • I iterate on scripts or ideas until they feel just right.

  • I ask ChatGPT to ask me follow up questions that would help it give me a more complete answer

Example:

  1. Start: “How can I explain the benefits of our pipeline services in under 30 seconds?”

  2. Follow-up: “Can you suggest a metaphor or analogy to simplify this for non-technical viewers?”

  3. Dive deeper: “How can I tie this into a specific case study to make it more relatable?”

  4. Ask for questions: “Can you ask me some follow up questions that would help you create a more engaging/compelling interesting script?”

Each question builds on the last, turning a basic idea into a polished final product.

Another way I interact with ChatGPT is asking it to ask me questions.

Why ACDQ Works

The ACDQ method isn’t just about getting better answers from ChatGPT; it’s about fostering a collaborative dialogue. For someone like me, working at a "small studio" - which is how I think of myself when it comes to marketing, this approach saves time and ensures that every piece of content—from marketing videos to technical explanations—is tailored and impactful.

Next time you’re crafting content or solving problems with ChatGPT, give ACDQ a try. Whether you’re writing a script, brainstorming ideas, or refining your services, this framework can help you unlock the full potential of your AI partner.
